Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) as well as Chris Watson (born in Paris). As a young girl of just five when she left for Oxfordshire and enrolled in her first Dragon School. At the age of six, Emma knew she was going to become an actress. For a number of years she trained at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theater school, where she learned performing and singing. She had already performed in numerous Stagecoach or school shows by the time she was 10 years old. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone The 2001 film adaption of J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was cast in 1999. Emma was discovered by agent through her Oxford teacher. After eight consistent auditions the producer David Heyman told Emma and fellow applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they were cast as the three leads Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Emma's debut on the big screen came in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, released in 2001. It was the highest-grossing film of 2001, the film set records for its debut day sales as well as opening weekend takings. Critics have praised both the film and the performances by the three main young actors. The Daily Telegraph, an influential British paper, called Emma's acting "amazing". Emma was awarded the Young Artist Award as the leading young actress in the Feature Film. Emma was recognized five times in recognition of her performance in the movie.
